      Hawthorn: Berry of the Heart

      Hawthorn Berry Syrup Recipe

Hawthorn berries are great in a syrup! It's an easy, very tasty way to get the benefits of hawthorn. I suggest adding the syrup to teas, or taking it everyday by the spoonful. You can also use on pancakes or waffles!

      Ingredients

      • 1 cup fresh or dried hawthorn berries
      • 2 cups water
      • Sugar or honey to taste

      Instructions

      1. Rinse the hawthorn berries thoroughly.
      2. In a saucepan, combine the hawthorn berries and water. Bring it to a boil.
      3. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes, mashing the berries occasionally.
      4. Strain the mixture to remove the berry solids, using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
      5. Return the liquid to the saucepan and add sugar. Stir well until the sugar dissolves.
      6. Simmer the syrup for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until it reaches a syrup-like consistency.
      7. Allow it to cool before transferring to a glass jar or bottle.
