Hi Michelle, can you tell us a little about your background?
Sure! I am a single mom to a 6-year-old daughter and 9 month old son. They are my true inspirations! When my daughter was born, there was no way I was going to go back to work and leave her. So I found part time-work that I could do from home. Since then I've become a freelancer writer for 3 companies plus a community coordinator for a local organic baby grocery store. When I do go in to the store to work, I get to wear my son with me. I am about to go back to school (online!) to become an IBCLC. We have lived an eco-friendly lifestyle for the past 4 years. Meaning I buy second hand or organic clothing, organic foods and personal care, eco-friendly goods, I make our own cleaners, recycle, repurpose, cloth diaper, babywear, and extended breastfeeding. I can't believe am just now getting into herbal supplements and tinctures.
Can you discuss the genesis of BabyElan {daily}?
BabyElan {daily} is actually my friend Dana Blake's editorial site. When I was pregnant with my son she asked me to join the team as a maternity writer. Luckily I've been able to stick around! We feature anything from baby bellies to green beyonds.
What is your role at BabyElan?
I mainly write about eco-friendly family products.
Do you write for any other blogs?
Yes! My own personal, neglected blog is Mkokopelli.blogspot.com. I also write for the green parenting blog Inhabitots, our local newspaper's mom site MomsCharlotte.com, and I blog for The Baby Grocery Store.
BabyElan offers discounts and giveaways and covers a variety of topics. Can you tell us more?
We do! We usually post 1-3+ giveaways a week for babies, kids, moms, pets, and even food related products. We have given away strollers, car seats, clothing, breastpumps, and tons of other cutting-edge products over the past 6 years.
Do you have a favorite herb?
This is a tough one! I love the healing properties of Calendula. It is great for bug bites, rashes, scrapes. I also love the relaxing properties and scent of lavender and love the taste of Lemon Balm in teas. I've recently discovered the wonder of fenugreek and how too much of it will make your armpits smell like syrup.
